Louisiana Culinary Institute (LCI) now offers a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts
Baton Rouge (May 2016) – LCI, founded in 2003, is excited to announce our newest program – a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts (BSCA) degree program. The new program is a complement to the current Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) in Culinary Arts degree program, and will allow for the same choice in concentrations: Advanced Culinary Arts or Advanced Baking and Pastry.
Like the current AOS program, the BSCA is intensive and condensed. It was designed to get students effectively trained and working in the culinary arts field in a condensed timeframe, specifically 28 months, or 7 total semesters. Therefore, if a student takes no unscheduled breaks, the student can earn his or her degree in less than 2.5 years.
Within the BSCA program itself, students are provided a conceptual understanding of Professional Cooking and Culinary Arts that prepares them for entrance or advancement in one or more culinary occupations requiring manual, manipulative, technical, and management competence or skills. The program is rounded out with an internship component focused on the student’s concentration choice, as well as several specialized management courses focusing on the hospitality and culinary industry, and a final written and practical exam.
Director of Public Affairs, Charlie Ruffolo explains, “This is an exciting time. The culinary arts and hospitality fields are exploding with career opportunities, and the industry is craving professionals with a strong foundation and formal education. The fact that this new program takes less than 3 years to complete is essential to getting those students into the industry quickly, so that they can apply what they’ve learned in the kitchens and classrooms to their career.”
Classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM – 1:45 PM, with general education classes held during the first 3 semesters Monday through Wednesday from 2:00 – 2:50 PM. For a listing of BSCA Courses, please visit https://lci.edu/courses-curriculum/bachelors-science-culinary-arts.
